HLTAID003 - Provide First Aid
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
Specific licensing /regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.
COURSE CONTENT SUMMARY
Students will attain the practical application and understanding required to apply first aid in both community and workplace setting, including the following:
- Recognise an emergency situation
- Identify, assess and manage immediate hazards to health and safety of self and others
- Assess the casualty and recognise the need for first aid response
- Assess the situation and seek assistance from emergency response services
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines
- Provide first aid in accordance with established first aid principles
- Communicate details of the incident
- Evaluate the incident and own performance
- Understand the Legislation applicable to applying first aid
QUALIFICATION OUTCOMES
On successful completion of this course students will be issued with a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for 'HLTAID003 - Provide First Aid' with the option of a wallet sized card also. The Unique Student Identifier must be supplied and verified prior to issuance.
VALIDITY OF CERTIFICATION
Your Statement of Attainment lasts for 3 years, however, industry standards recommend CPR retraining every 12 months.
Course Delivery
Training and assessment is a one day course, generally conducted on-site at the premises of industry clients, provided there are suitable infrastructure and industry training facilities available.

Prerequisite Information
Candidates will need to have basic literacy/numeracy skills. No other requirements are needed to enroll in the course for HLTAID003 - Provide First Aid.
